Upcoming programs include: “Smart Growth—What’s in it for Working Families and Organized Labor?” on Friday, September 20, featuring Don Turner of the Chicago Federation of Labor; “Smart Growth—Why does it matter to Faith Communities?” on Friday, October 18, with Mary Gonzales, lead organizer for the Gamaliel Foundation and founding director of Metropolitan Alliance of Congregations; “Smart Growth—What does it mean for Social & Economic Equity?” on Friday, November 15, presenting Professor john powell, scholar, author, and founding director of the Institute on Race and Poverty, University of Minnesota Law School; and “Smart Growth—What’s in it for Business?” Friday, December 6, with speaker Ed McMahon, attorney, planner, author, director of The Conservation Fund’s “American Greenways Program,” and an authority on the "Dollars and Sen$e" of Smart Growth.
Subsequent programs in 2003 will address implications of sprawl and Smart Growth for housing choices, for developers, home builders, and realtors; for elected officials and decision-makers, for suburbs, for older communities, for our children.
