As usual, a portion of the proceeds will go to a chosen charity in our community. This month the benefit will be for HERO (Health Education Resource Organization), helping those affected by HIV/AIDS. We invite you to bring any canned food items, blankets, clothing, toothbrushes (new only!), socks, etc. for Heart's Place, the Baltimore homeless shelter, serving men, women and children.
The show starts at 8 pm (doors open at 7:30). Tickets are $7 ($5 for students with a valid ID). Free parking in the church parking lot. Held at St. John's United Methodist Church of Hamilton, 5315 Harford Road, Baltimore, MD 21214. Door prizes, desserts, and organic coffees and teas are available. For info, call 410-730-2421.
The show is a 60-minute one-man-show juggernaut that explores "new" patriotism, old imperialism and definitively shows that 43 is 41; hes just dumber, say the shows publicists. It compares George Bush 41 and George Bush 43 using tales of espionage, big business double-dealing, police riots, ridiculous drug legislation, class warfare, voting "NO" and conspiracy theories that turn out to be true. Dark humor, grisly wit and a parade of divergent characters tackle politics, prejudice, patriotism and the very fabric of consensus reality in this show that elicits tension with its laughter, says the press release. Current news events are updated daily into this "agi-tainment."
Tickets are $8 ($6 for students) and are available in person at the Towson University Box Office or by phone at (410) 704-ARTS. Erik Peterson of "Mischief Brew" will perform folk-punk music before the show. For more information, call (443) 824-DARE or visit the website.
The new company is made up from veteran professional actors from the Baltimore/Washington area. Actors have been assembled from theaters that include the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, Repertory Theater of America, Mobtown Players, Axis Theatre, The Shakespeare Theatre and The National Players.
Tickets are $13 and may be purchased at the door. There is limited seating, but reservations may be made in advance. Call 410-752-3611 or email: Shakespeare@reptheater.com.
