THE ART SCENE:

Resurgam Gallery Presents...
"The Contents of Space" at Resurgam Gallery

Show features new works from Chris Jones and Brian P. Miller

Untitled photograph by Chris Jones, 2005.
Resurgam Gallery, at 910 South Charles Street in Federal Hill, will exhibit mixed silver and color photographs featuring two photographers, Brian P. Miller of Baltimore and Chris Jones of New York City, from January 5 – 29, 2006. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, January 5, 6 - 8PM.

Miller, originally from Catonsville, has spent most of his life living and working in the Baltimore area. He is currently a resident artist at the Contemporary Artists Center in North Adams, Massachusetts. He received his BFA from Tisch School of the Arts and taught at Loyola Blakefield in Towson and the Community College of Baltimore County between 1998 and 2002, before returning to graduate school in Manchester, England, where he received an MA in Social Anthropology. When not in North Adams, he now resides in New Bedford, Massachusetts, working as a freelance photographer.

Jones, a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, has created numerous book covers for clients such as Random House, Vintage Books, and Mucca Design, and publishes his portraits in such magazines as Time and Psychology Today.

The two photographers have been engaging in an ongoing professional dialogue, sharing ideas, perspectives, conversations, and images. Both have committed their lives to the pursuit of a photographic interpretation of the world. "This joint body of work emerges from similar visual journeys the two photographers have found themselves in over the last two years or more," according to the gallery's statement to the press. "The images are a contemplation and inventory of space as a framework for abstract or specific visual events. Though aesthetic in nature, these photographs strictly engage in a documentary context, drawing attention to the blending of a natural world with a human one, a visual world with an intellectual consciousness; the images either contest idiosyncrasies or complement synchronicity." (For translation, see show.)

Resurgam, opened in 1990, is an artist-supported, not-for-profit gallery that exhibits works of artists from all media and genres. Artists showing at Resurgam share the costs of operating the gallery during the period in which their show runs.
